"Life is a bowl of strawberries. Eat the strawberries. But don't expect whipped cream on every single one."

    - Anonymous

Welcome to the June issue of Seasoned Cooking. With strawberries in season and fresh for the picking, it’s hard not to find dozens of ways to enjoy them! Who need whipped cream when you have so many other options? We begin with a special feature article devoted to strawberries and the wonderful dishes that can be made with them. Everything from fresh preserves to a frozen cake are offered for your baskets of berries. You might also want to try the strawberry filled cupcakes presented in this month’s Happy Endings column or Rossana’s favorite strawberry dish featuring balsamic vinegar and a creamy topping at the Through the Kitchen Window column.

Of course, June also marks the beginning of the summer season and that wouldn’t be complete without a look at grilling. We begin a series of articles about grilling in the Kitchen Focus column with a look at grilling roasts. Don’t worry, there are a few recipes to get you started as well! And summer flavors are also highlighted in the Ingredient SpotLight column, where the focus is on mangoes and how well they work in both sweet and savory dishes. They also pack a nutritional punch! And if you’re looking for great foods to add to your menus, try taking a look at the 12 Best Foods cookbook for a look at how food can be delicious and nutritious.

With summer beginning, it’s also time to look at ways to save time and energy in the kitchen. Stop by the Rush Hour column for a pizza that eats like a sandwich … or is it the other way around? Phil’s getting us to eat our vegetables with a great recipe featuring broccoli at Phil’s International Flair and the Rise ‘n Shine column is offering a muffin recipe that will make getting out the door in the morning with a good breakfast a snap.

There's a lot more to enjoy in this month's issue of Seasoned Cooking -- from a look at the government’s new dietary guidelines to our question of the month … here’s a hint, it’s about berries! Enjoy and here's to a seasoned lifestyle.
