"Soup and fish explain half the emotions of human life."
- Sydney Smith
Welcome to the March issue of Seasoned Cooking. This month’s quote must be giving a nod to our Ingredient SpotLight column, which focuses on white wine and features recipes for both soup and fish! Of course, these aren’t just any recipes … include them in any elegant gathering and you are sure to impress. And we’re not done. Another meal that comes together quickly, yet is perfect for entertaining is the Thai curry featured in this month’s Rush Hour. It can be made with either chicken or shrimp, but simply must be made with wonderfully fresh vegetables.
Speaking of fresh vegetables, spring is nearly upon us and that means turning our attention to produce that’s becoming more available and such. And it means enjoying salads. Just in case you are concerned about salads this early in the season, we’re including a feature article on the salads of winter that’s sure to open your eyes to the beauty of salads featuring some of winter’s stars. And if you’re looking for something traditional, make sure you visit Phil’s International Flair. Phil is serving up Caesar Salad tableside and you won’t want to miss it!
Of course, there are some other great flavors packed in this issue as well. You might want to start your day with a savory couscous topped with a poached egg and, if you are feeling decadent, a rich tomato sauce at the Rise ‘n Shine column. Or you might just want to join Rossana at the Through the Kitchen Window column with her favorite comfort food … a sandwich featuring ripe, juicy tomatoes! And the Kitchen Focus column looks at the art of slow cooking and offers a stick-to-your-ribs recipe for beef stew. If sweets are more your thing, you can always find something sweet, easy and quick to make at the Happy Endings column too.
There's a lot more to enjoy in this month's issue of Seasoned Cooking -- from a look at high fructose corn syrup and its affects on your health to a feature article dedicated to quick Irish-inspired recipes. Enjoy and here's to a seasoned lifestyle.
