"Compost . . . because a rind is a terrible thing to waste."

    - Anonymous

Welcome to the August issue of Seasoned Cooking. This month's issue takes a closer look at the art of composting and how it can transform your garden plot into a lush and fertile spot in your yard. Our special guide to composting gives you all you need to start composting at home. Once you've started that process, you'll want to take a look at the garden tips offered at the Cooking Corner.

Once you've harvested your garden's bounty, you'll want to use it in great recipes like the ones found in this month's Land of Leftovers, Rush Hour and Meet Herb columns. Everything from Hummus and Veggie Pizza to Creamy Garden Pasta can be found.

Since the hottest days of the summer are likely still in front of us, it's also a great time to talk about surviving the heat. Health & Fitness takes a look at keeping cool and making changes to our daily lives to keep heat concerns at bay. And let us know about how you keep cool in the Seasoned Opinions column.

On the sweet side, Happy Endings offers a chilled dessert featuring chocolate and fresh raspberries that makes a stunning finale to any meal. If you're looking for something sweet to add to your morning meal, try the coffee cake presented in the Rise 'n Shine column or the jam and jelly recipes in the Home Cookin' column.

Finally, get a lesson in making polenta and polenta-based meals in a special feature. Everything from hearty meals to unique appetizers can be found in this exciting article.

That's just a sampling of what we've packed into this month's issue. I'll leave you to discover the other gems to be found. Speaking of gems, make sure that you check out Seasoned Cooking's first offering in its online catalog. Have a great month and here's to a seasoned lifestyle!
